3. Saw Love Never Dies, the 'sequel' to Phantom of the Opera, which was about two hours of appalling only partially redeemed by 15 minutes of not bad. Singing was fine, but the score and lyrics were completely uninspiring and the acting mostly non-existent, although Sharon Millerchip (Meg Giry - she actuallly played the same role in the original Australian production) still knows how to captivate an audience, thank goodness, and the child-of-the-day was great, much better than most of the adults. I'm not a big (ph)an, but I have liked it well enough to see the original production several times in different incarnations, and enjoyed the movie far more than I'd like to admit. But the sequel is all kinds of no. In fairness, I should mention there was plenty of rapturous applause from the audience, so it was probably mostly me (although I noticed the random guy on the other side of me didn't even bother applauding, which seems a little rude). The look of the production was indeed fabulous - I loved the whole sideshow setting - and worthy of much admiration if one attends musicals just to admire the costumes and sets, which, yes, wow, but silk purse/sow's ear.
4. Oh, and for those who missed it the first time, the National Theatre's Frankenstein will be returning to Australia for an encore season in June. I do hope some reasonably convenient theatre picks it up for its return. I really need to see BC play Victor. Need.
5. Non-identifiable poll results on "Cumberbitches" will be forthcoming; thanks for voting!
Clearly I can't count, either.
